Usain Bolt to Play Soccer ?

So the latest word is that Usain Bolt is seriously considering switching sports. After he gained word wide recognition for his unprecedented speed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Bolt has been able to participate in practices with professional soccer teams around the globe. His latest stop was with Manchester United, which happens to be his favorite club. He has previously said that he wanted to play as a “left-sided defensive midfielder”, a position which he played when he was in high school. Since this would be a huge gamble from the side of any soccer team, these comments were previously dismissed as just talk for publicity. Now he's seriously talking about his future as a footballer and not just his past.

In his autobiography Bolt says:

"Ideally, if I was to play football, I'd sign for my favorite team -- Manchester United. People say it's not realistic but nobody has seen me play so you never know. If Alex Ferguson saw me in one of those charity matches he might think I could replace Ryan Giggs."

Being Usain Bolt helps in that sporting stars love to meet him, so whenever he's travelling and there's time, he tries to train with a top football team. He's still carrying a copy of the French
sporting newspaper L'Equipe, which features a spread on his football skills and praise from Bayern manager Louis van Gaal.

"If I keep myself in shape, I can definitely play football at a high level," says Bolt.

This would be like playing roulette for any club to sign him but considering his speed and athletic abilities, Bolt would at least get a trial with almost any team he desires. We can only wait and see what becomes of this but would be quite interesting to see the fastest man on earth sprint along on the football field.
